Jambo! Very quick update to tell all those reading how things are going! Alicia and I have been really busy drawing and painting a Noah’s Ark Mural on the class 6 wall. Its AMAZING, but only probably half done. we are actually on our way there to finish painting the rest of the day. All the kids now want us to paint one in every class and every room. We told them we couldn’t, but we might paint a bible verse in each room if we get a chance. The teachers spent a lot of time talking to us about how much of a blessing we have been to the kids, it was nice to hear. As always though, they have been more of a blessing to us I believe.

We went looking for Ian Kamau, and it was a flop. I dont remember if I wrote last time, but when we went to Merciful Redeemer, he and Ashley Nyambura were not there. Apparently they had gone to their grandmothers burial and never came back. The thought was they were with their uncle. We went to where their uncle stays and they were not there. We were then told their mother who abandoned them when Ian was like 3 and Ashley 2, showed up at the burial and took them. Basically kidnapped in a sense. She was HIV+ the last I knew, but I doubt has ever received treatment. Them being with her, who they do not know, when she could die of AIDS any day is frustrating to me and upsetting. We are hoping to still try and find them, even if just to see them, but I do not know if in reality we will.

Today John is going to be planting vegetables all day, so we best get going.

Kenya Update

So we have been keeping busy, working at the orphanage, helping the aunties in the kitchen- sorting beans and maize, and chopping cabbage and potatoes, and washing the kitchen floor. Johns been busy helping the uncles, chop bamboo for the cow food, and hay stuff as well. He also has been chopping the hardest wood ive ever seen: they think this is quite funny.

We have been doing a little teaching, and doing a lot of playing on breaks and loving on the children. We have been teaching them some games and playing a LOT OF FUTBALL (soccer) . Alicia and I are going to start painting Bible Scenes on the classrooms this week, which will be really neat and bring a positive spirit and environment into the place.

WE ARE HERE!

We made it here safely, after a long journey from Flint to Chicago, to London, with a 12 hour layover in London, and then to Nairobi. We were somehow blessed with amazing seats on the plane from London to Nairobi, as they bumped us up to right below first class and we had lots of leg room, and only the three of us were next to us and we had free food and anything we wanted. It was wonderful.

Jimnah and Pastor Peter were waiting for us at the airport and it was a relief to say the least. We went out for tea and then went to Jimnahs house. The three of us are sharing a little room with bunkbeds and all our stuff. Its funny watching us try to maneuver around.

We are getting to know the kids names at Joy Childrens Home. There are 24 kids who live there, but 200 who go to school there. Its crazy during the day with all of the kids, but we are figuring it all out. The place is wonderful and Sarah and Jimnah have done such an amazing job. After school they do chores, which are voluntary who does what. There is watering of the plants and preparing food for dinner and sweeping and washing classrooms and doing homework and washing their own clothes. They have fellowship every night where they sing and pray. We have been going on the morning and staying until fellowship which is at 7 and then walking home. we eat dinner later and then head to bed.

we have done a few sightseeing outings, and all kissed a giraffe.

We went to the new MERCIFUL REDEEMER CHILDRENS HOME and I got to see some of my old kids. that was amazing, but Ian and Ashley were gone which was really sad. Jimnah is going to try and get their information and we are going to try and meet up. Pray that this can happen.

Otherwise just continue to pray that we will be the hands and feet of Christ and do His will. We are just working each day not exactly sure what will come out of it. PRay for the children of Joy and the individuals working to make their lives better!

We will be creating arts and crafts items for sale and posting pictures of them on the blog. We had another garage sale, at Spring Lake CRC Church, and it was a success. Thank you for all of those who came out and supported us, as well as to those who helped with the setting up and taking down. Specifically thanks to Dawn Burns, Alicia Brown, and Katie Botbyl for running it. Also thanks to John Burns and Tom Burns for helping set up, as well as Tom Burns and Mr. and Mrs. Botbyl for helping take it all down.
